The Best Thing We’ve Done in Over a Decade!

“I first heard about Faith In Action at the National Outreach Convention in San Diego last year,” said Chris Enoch, pastor of Third Presbyterian Church, Uniontown PA. “I prayed about it for several months – and then introduced the concept to our elder board. They enthusiastically endorsed the idea!”

A church member volunteered to “find” the projects, and on Sunday, Oct. 14, Third Pres held their first Faith In Action Day, with seven projects in all. One team held an ice cream social at a rehabilitation home; another group raked and cleaned up yards neighboring the church. A third team cleaned up the town’s Rotary Walk; a fourth served lunch at the Salvation Army. Others painted a basement parking area at a local nonprofit organization called Community Action. The church’s senior citizens group, together with the junior high group, created lap robes for seniors in local nursing homes; and the last group visited military veterans in local nursing homes. A total 125 of the church’s 230 attendees showed up to help serve the community.

“My favorite part of the whole Faith In Action program was seeing the people get excited about serving the community in the name of Jesus – and seeing their excitement continue as they keep on serving,” related Pastor Chris. “We have a saying here at Third Pres – Jesus first; others second; we’re Third (Pres). It was gratifying to watch us put it into action.”

Pastor Chris has recently been elected as president of the Uniontown Clergy Association, and has already begun planting seeds for other churches to join Faith in Action. “Word has come back to me a few times that this was the best thing we’d done in over a decade, and we want to perpetuate it,” he explained. “We’re already planning our next FIA day in the spring!”
