Middletown Presbyterian on the Move
"Be the Church Day" at Middletown Presbyterian Church...
What an amazing experience we had in Being the Church. We gathered for a short worship time and communion, and then we commissioned everyone to GO! We had 175 people volunteer to be a part of 8 different projects: Knitting prayer shawls, cooking meals for Aid for Friends, Making blankets and sorting through blankets for Broad Street Ministries in Philadelphia, making cards to go to nursing homes, hospitals and to homebound friends, Visiting at three local retirement communities, visiting homebound members of our church, working at CityTeam Minsitries in Chester, PA. Then in the afternoon a group went to Broad Street Ministries to deliver the 75 blankets made and collected. The weekend before we did Be the Chruch, 13 of our youth participated in the 30 hour famine and served at Sunday Breakfast Resuce Mission in Philadelphia as well as spent time learning about hunger and homelessness issues.
This was a time for all of our church family and friends to work together. One of our wheelchair bound members wanted to go visit a homebound member and his wife. He and a companion went to visit and made a commitment to make this a weekly event. we have all kinds of stories like this to share of how people of all ages and abilities worked together for God's kingdom.
It was an incredible expereince, and people are asking to do it annually if not twice a year. May this be a way of learning to live a life of serving Christ in the world.
