My story of service ...

My church has done the Faith in Action model for the past few years. We close our doors for one Sunday and go out into the community to serve. Last year my husband and I signed up to help clean some local trails. What a great way to serve the Lord, fellowship with other members of our church we had never met and be the hands and feet of Christ! A few churches in our area partnered together over one weekend so it was amazing to see thousands of people wearing our service T-shirts across the county. Our community was able to see first hand our Faith in Action and it was a wonderful way to witness!

Step 1: Decide how your church might like to engage in Faith in Action. [Serve, then worship] [Worship, serve, then return] [Or, do it on a weekend].
Step 2: Your church will want to select tools to: Prepare your members, create excitement, and invite your community to participate.
Step 3: Establish a timeline for your campaign - Refer to the Planning Guide to help you.
Step 4: Launch your Faith in Action Campaign - and watch God work in amazing ways!

I’ve been the Director for our local Faith in Action nonprofit agency for a little over a year. I am interested in making contact with other agencies, churches and their volunteer coordinators to get ideas on ways that a nonprofit can serve its local congregations and collaborate to meet the need. We were started with a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant and train volunteers to assist the elderly who are homebound with chonic health issues.

Is anyone else interested in a dialogue on this?

Our community is in a suburb of a city where the needs are masked. We have found that people are hurting because of the recession in their homes. They are unable to pay their bills or have a full pantry of food. How about you where have you found the needs to be the greatest in your community?

A November 8th Success Story from Cedar Hills Community Church!!!!

Hello! We had a great event on November 8, 2009 using the Faith in Action program. Thanks to your direction and A LOT of hard work from our FIA team (as well as God throwing in a sunny day were temperatures were 20 degrees above a normally cool November day), we were able to have an event that will shape our outreach and ministry to the community for years and years to come. Here’s some news coverage and videos we’ve created to tell our story…

Pastor Testimony

Last Sunday was just a huge day for the church. Everything went perfect – 20 projects, all greatly appreciated by the community. The energy in the morning was electric, but only surpassed as the groups came back Sunday night. the singing was powerful, and the stories were memorable. We’re hearing some neat responses, too. The city of Lacey wants to give us a commendation in May.

I’m just more touched by the little things. One woman said it gives her a reason to bake cookies – to give them away. (We made and gave cookies to the Fire stations, Hospital Emergency Room staff, and some nursing homes).

That was a great start!

We’re all in for participating on October 11. WE’ll be signing up.
